JHMR has long respected the natural beauty and ecological significance of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem in which we are situated. In April 2006, JHMR achieved ISO 14001 certification following our Silver Eagle Award for Environmental Excellence - Visual Impact in 2005 and for Energy Conservation in 2003.

JHMR Environmental Policy:
JHMR will grow in harmony with its environment by developing and implementing a comprehensive environmental program.  To implement this policy, JHMR commits to:

  • Follow applicable environmental laws and regulations.
  • Follow the principles of National Ski Area Association's (NSAA) Sustainable Slopes Charter.
  • Establish targets for pollution prevention.
  • Continually review and improve our environmental program.
  • Communicate our environmental work and policy to employees and the public.
  • Meet our 5x10x15 quantitative goals detailed below

JHMR Environmental Goals:
JHMR’s quantitative environmental goal: 5 x 10 x 15
Using a baseline of 2007-08 ski season, JHMR commits by the beginning of the 2015 calendar year to accomplish the quantitative environmental goals listed below. Each of the goals will be measured per guest visit or per building square foot to emphasize operational efficiency and enable business growth. JHMR’s progress will be annually monitored by independent external audits.

•JHMR will reduce by 5% its total water consumption and solid waste generation and reduce by 10% its total greenhouse gas emissions due to electricity use, fuel/propane use, and guest car transportation and also its hazardous waste generation by 2015.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is third party ISO certified as a "green" company, the second of only two ski resorts in the US to achieve this recognition. ISO 14001 certification is the most widely known and respected environmental stamp of approval, which demonstrates responsible management of our environmental impacts.


In 2005 JHMR averted almost 15% of our total carbon emissions through wind power, biodiesel, carpooling/bus travel and recycling programs, all instituted or significantly strengthened over the previous four years.
