This weekend competitors of the Jackson Hole IFSA Junior Freeride Competition took to Toilet Bowl and Tower 3 to show off their skills. 91 skiers and riders ages U12-U18 competed on a gorgeous bluebird day on Saturday in Toilet Bowl. Firm but chalky conditions provided a great canvas for the athletes to showcase their style and impress the team of amazing judges -- Susan Mol, Crystal Wright, and Alex George. Freeriders are scored based on line choice, fluidity, technique, control, and style as they navigate through natural terrain featuring trees, steeps, cliffs, chutes, drops, and gullies where they are rewarded for using the features creatively.
67 skiers and riders went on to qualify for day two of competition in Tower 3 on Sunday. The steep chute allowed athletes to show off their technical ski abilities in tight terrain, while the lower down features provided an arena to get air, throw tricks, and pin it through rocks, trees, and over some big drops. The day started off in the gleaming sun with some clouds rolling in as the day went on. Given the firm snow conditions and fading light, the athletes were absolutely sending!
A huge thanks to the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club and the JHSC Freeride program for their hard work in helping make this event happen. It's great to see young athletes from locations across the region including Jackson Hole, Teton Valley, Big Sky, Bridger Bowl, Whitefish, Red Lodge and even Mad River Glen, VT get after it.
Thanks for coming out this weekend! Results and more photos posted below.
Remember, this event isn’t possible without the help of Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club, JHMR Ski Patrol, and JHMR Race Crew – so if you see these hard workers on the hill give ’em a high five.
