Race #1 of the JH Downhill Championships presented by Scott Sports kicked off today with a bang... of thunder and lighting that is. The storms may have set back the start time but it certainly did not bring down the racers spirits, after some much needed rain this morning, the course was running immaculatley with fast, tacky dirt that was welcomed by our 61 competitors.

This first of three seperate series courses featured the fast section of Solitoga connecting into Lower Deer Jump via Teewinot Gully Speedway (a series of difficult flat taped turns) before entering a brand new section of the bike park in the Upper Sweet Timothy area, crossing the line after hitting a newly completed finish line jump. Spectators showed incredible support making the short hike up to the finish line to cheer on racers as they completed the course.

The 12-15 groms started off the day strong with Chloe Richmond dropping in first, putting down impressive times and keeping the vibe high, most notably a time of 3:58.31 by Nick Brindisi that would have made him competitive in categories well beyond his years. Men's 16-18 came down to the wire with only a difference of 0.79 between first and second. Moving down the list, a massive shout out to our Men's and Women's Vet class riders with impressive first place finishes by Heather Goodrich (4:37.8) and Chris Canfield (3:43.39 one of the fastest times of the day). Lastly, I would like to congratulate our fastest Men's and Women's racers of the day both coming from our Pro classes (battling for the overall series $1,000 first place prize) Tailee Smith (4:00.85) and Triston Merrill (3:39.29). Oh.. almost forgot to mention two of our very own JHMR Bike Guides took home first place in their respective Open AM categories, congrats to Wyatt Hughes and Jessica Meloy! maybe some of the other racers should sign up for some tips at JH Sports..

Thank you to everyone who came out to race, this could not happen without you all and a massive thank you to Scott Sports for helping us put this on with podium prizes, raffle prizes and registration bags!

We are looking forward to Race #2 on Sunday Aug. 18 and our final race of the series on Saturday Sept. 7, online registation is open!
