Winters can be cold in Jackson Hole, but that doesn’t have to freeze your vacation plans.

Keep your plans intact with winter-ready retail, dining options, firepits, and more at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. With plenty of ways to stay warm, JHMR is ready to help you make the most of chilly temperatures.

We’ve outlined the best ways you can stay warm :

Inversions

Before heading out of the door, check to see if there’s an inversion. On cold winter days when valley temperatures hover around 0 degrees or below, you should always check the upper elevation temperatures. During an inversion, the upper mountain weather can be up to 30-40 degrees warmer than the mountain base. Checking forecasts and live temperatures on our Snow & Weather Report and JH Insider should be part of your daily ski routine before you leave the door.

Warm Layers and Heated Gear

Winter veterans know that the key to warmth is layering, and JHMR’s Teton Village Sports and JH Sports have the gear you need from the industry’s best brands. Whether you're looking for the warmest puffy or lightest Merino base layer, our friendly staff can help you find exactly what you need. Discover our heated glove, heated sock, or hand warmer selection if you need that extra bit of heat. Check out our layering guide below for even more information about gear and clothing options.

Leverage the volts! Adding a little electric to your winter gear is a 'smart' move these days — heated gloves, socks, and ski boot liners are available at JH Sports and Teton Village Sports.

Buffs, new gloves or a hat, and an extra layer of puffy down feathers can increase your cold tolerance!

Hot Drinks and Food

Piling on clothes isn’t the only way to retain heat —a warm drink can do the trick too. For a piping hot treat at the mountain base, stop by Café 6311 in the morning to grab a steaming cup of coffee or hot chocolate.

We also have plenty of on-mountain dining options if you need a quick warm-up without wasting your precious ski time. Check out our dining map to see what options are available near your favorite trail.

For even bigger smiles, visit Tram Dock, where you can get great deals on drinks and food during Happy Hour, beginning at 2 p.m.

Gondolas & Tram

The Aerial Tram, Bridger Gondola, and Sweetwater Gondolas are all enclosed lifts, offering protection from the elements. These lifts are all serviced from the base area, so you can stay warmer when navigating to the upper mountain above the inversion. There are also heated lodges at the top of each lift, where you can enjoy a hot meal or beverage.

Fireplaces and Heated Patios

There are many heated areas around the village and on the mountain. Tram Dock provides outdoor heaters on the deck at the base for a warmer outdoor lunch or après afternoon. There are firepits located at the skating rink in the Village Commons and at Solitude Station for a quick warm-up of the hands or feet. Casper Lodge, at the top of Sweetwater Gondola, offers a cozy fireplace with couches where you can lounge with a cocktail. Piste Mountain Bistro, at the top of Bridger Gondola, boasts a fireplace along with a table service dining experience for those who need some extra time warming up.

Hiking the Headwall

Nothing keeps the blood flowing like a hike up the headwall. Make sure to control your layers and prevent yourself from sweating too much. This is where that technical or merino layer will really come in handy! Take it slow and make sure you are comfortable on the way up. Enjoy an epic ski or ride down the main bowl, or traverse further to Casper Bowl or Crags.

Winter Layering Guide

Nothing ruins a day on the mountain faster than being cold and uncomfortable. While we typically only see the outer layers of one's ski kit, there are a variety of layers underneath specially designed for optimal performance and insulation. For the best day on the slopes, it's crucial to have a ski kit that keeps you both warm and comfortable.

Snowiest Winter Ever at Jackson Hole

That's a wrap for the record-setting 2022-23 winter season at Jackson Hole. 595" of snow fell making this winter the snowiest, deepest ever recorded in Rendezvous Bowl! These past months have raced by, fueled by fresh flakes cascading onto our slopes and ample time sliding on snow. The "Teton trickle" felt more like a firehose at times, and the sun was most-elusive. March was miraculous and we though it best to put how absurdly snowy last month was into perspective (read more).
