Beginner
Level 1: Has never been on a snowboard before or tried it once on own and it did not go very well.
Goals: Confidently make turns and control the speed of green runs. Consistently stopping and slowing down. Riding the chairlift
Novice
Level 2: Able to side slip in a balanced stance and change direction using falling leaf on both heel and toe edge. Can twist the board while traversing to drop the nose down the fall line and then come to a stop.
Level 3: Can link skidded turns and use turn shape to control speed on green runs. May be ready to try a blue with some practice.
Goals: Develop skills to master the green runs and prepare to ski easy blues.
Intermediate
Level 4: Able to twist the board to make skidded turns on blue terrain. Can do easy freestyle maneuvers like small jumps, ollies, flat spins, and switch riding. Is able to ride chopped up snow on piste.
Goals: Develop skills to ride blue runs with confidence and explore more difficult terrain.
Advanced
Level 5: Comfortable on all double-blue terrain and some easy blacks. Wants to work on being more proficient off-trail in bumps and trees. Able to ride small terrain park features with straight air grabs and progressions leading to in air spins i.e. 180’s, 360’s.
Goals: Develop skills needed to ride all groomed terrain and easy off-piste areas.
Expert
Level 6: Can ride anywhere at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Can make fast dynamic carved turns. Is comfortable linking turns in large moguls, steep terrain, cliff areas, and large terrain park features. Is looking to refine advanced snowboarding skills.
Goals: Developing and perfecting skills and tactics to conquer the mountain.
