The Reputation: Steep, Deep, and Extreme

Our reputation for difficulty is no accident. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) boasts a staggering 4,139-foot vertical drop, the largest in the United States and second-largest in North America. Our terrain distribution tells the story:

  • Beginner (Green): 10%
  • Intermediate (Blue): 40%
  • Advanced/Expert (Black): 50%

For experts, this means a playground of steep runs, open bowls, and legendary runs like Corbet’s Couloir, known as the "most difficult ski run in America”. Dropping into Corbet’s requires nerve and a lot of skill, but for those who dare, it’s a bucket-list experience.

However, our mountain isn’t exclusively for daredevils. While the advanced terrain captures headlines, we've expanded our offerings for intermediate and beginner skiers, making it more accessible to a broader audience.

For Intermediates and Beginners: More Than You’d Expect

We have made significant efforts to shed our “experts-only” image. Today, 40% of the terrain is rated blue, offering intermediates plenty of exciting, scenic options. Runs accessed by the Apres Vous Chair or Casper Chair feature wide, groomed runs perfect for building confidence before venturing to terrain off of TetonThunder, and Sublette. Take a ride on the Bridger Gondola for a scenic experience and almost 3,000 vertical feet of magnificent terrain. Plus, when the weather's western, it's nice to be in an enclosed lift ascending to the mid/upper elevations of the mountain.

For beginners, Teewinot and Eagle’s Rest lifts provide access to mellow, welcoming slopes. Our world-class ski school instructors and beginner-friendly zones ensure that first-timers can build confidence and enjoy their Jackson Hole experience without intimidation.

  • Know Your Limits: With 50% of the terrain designed for advanced skiers, it’s essential to pick runs that match your ability. Typically, the looker's-right side of the mountain offers easy and intermediate terrain choices, while the looker's-left side is home to some of the more iconic runs and lifts (like Thunder and Sublette).
  • Embrace the Terrain: From groomers to powder-filled bowls and everything in between, explore the variety of terrain we have to offer. Take a look at our trail map to plan ahead.
